Timeless sculptural form meets the wild magic of fire There is a striking harmony in pairing an elegant, open silhouette with the unformed, elemental energy of Raku firing.

Hand-shaped from our signature white textured clay, this bowl features beautifully flared proportions that bring a sense of quiet grandeur to your home, brought vividly to life through live flame and smoke.

I pull each piece red-hot directly from the kiln while glowing at nearly 1,000°C. I lay fine strands of natural horsehair and sprinkles of sugar directly onto the pale, textured surface. The hair sears instantly, leaving delicate, feather-thin carbon trails across the clay, while the sugar caramelises and burns into soft, smoky freckles. It creates a captivating, tactile contrast between the refined, flowing form and the wild, unrepeatable marks of the fire.

A sculptural centrepiece for quiet moments Designed to sit gracefully as a statement piece on a dining table, console, or open shelving, this bowl brings an air of relaxed sophistication to any room. The raw, white textured clay offers a beautiful tactile depth, making it just as satisfying to hold as it is to admire. It makes a stunning home for dried botanicals, seed pods, or simply as a standalone piece of ceramic art.

An extraordinary gift for art and design lovers We form deep emotional connections with objects that carry a visible story of human touch and natural craft. If you are looking for a truly special housewarming, wedding, or milestone birthday gift, this piece offers a timeless blend of classic elegance and modern British studio pottery that will be cherished for decades.

The Details:

  • Shape & Style: Flared sculptural decorative bowl/vessel.

  • Material: White textured stoneware clay base.

  • Crafting Technique: Traditional live-pulled Raku firing with hand-applied sugar caramelisation and horsehair carbonisation.

  • Size: Approx. 17 cm wide x 9cm high.

  • Made by: Hand-shaped and fire-finished by Nina in Shropshire.

  • Display Note: Raku pottery is inherently porous and non-watertight; this bowl is designed for decorative display, dried florals, or holding dry treasures.

  • Shipping: Lovingly wrapped in 100% recyclable packaging and sent via Royal Mail Tracked delivery across the UK.

One-of-a-kind beauty: Because the sugar and horsehair burn directly into the glowing clay during the live fire pull, the black carbon trails and caramelised speckles on the white textured surface are completely unrepeatable. Your bowl is a single, unique moment in time captured in clay.

A gentle note on our small-batch process: Because I work in very small, intentional batches, there may be times when an item is out of stock; if so, I will happily hand-craft your piece to order, a slow-made process that typically takes between 6 to 8 weeks from the wheel to the kiln.

FAQs

Yes, unless otherwise stated the item is dishwasher safe, however to preserve the finish and help improve the longevity of your pottery, I recommend washing it by hand wherever possible.

Overtime dishwashers can cause additional wear on ceramics, especially with intricate glazes or decorations.

In particular circumstances where a lower fire clay is used, this is clear in the description of the item and while still may 'survive' a dishwasher it will effect the glaze/colours quicker.

want you to love your ceramics as much as I loved making them. However, I understand that sometimes things don't go as planned.

In the Unlikely Event of Breakages; While I pride myself on my robust, plastic-free packaging, the journey of a ceramic piece can occasionally be a bumpy one. If your item arrives damaged:

  1. Please take a photo of the broken item and the packaging it arrived in immediately.

  2. Email me at nina@ceramicsbynina.com within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and the photos attached.

  3. Replacement or Refund: We will either send out a replacement (subject to availability in our current small-batch stock) or issue a full refund including your original shipping costs.

Please note: As every piece is unique and hand-thrown, replacement items may have slight variations in shape or hand-painted detail compared to the original.

If your order is for a specific date please contact me ahead of ordering and we can arrange a timed and trackable delivery. This will be at an additional cost.
