There is a lovely sense of balance that comes with adding a hand-trimmed pedestal base to a wheel-thrown mug. Raising the clay body just a few millimetres off the surface creates a soft shadow-line beneath the cup, giving it an elegant, weightless feel on your table. That raised base also serves a practical purpose: it reduces direct heat transfer to your wooden surfaces while keeping your drink hotter for longer.

Finished with a clear interior and our popular Ink-Spot glaze on the outside, each piece features a soft white satin backdrop speckled with smoky blue-grey flecks. The smooth, light inside makes it effortlessly easy to wash and completely resistant to tea stains, giving you a bright, clean canvas to admire the true colour of your brew.

Available in two everyday sizes:

  • 8 fl oz: The ideal, balanced size for a morning flat white, a rich double espresso, or a quiet herbal tea.

  • 10 fl oz: A generous, comforting cup for proper tea lovers who enjoy a fuller brew.

The Details:

  • Dimensions: Approx. 9cm high x 9cm wide.

  • Clay Body: High-fired, warm earthenware clay.

  • Special Features: Hand-trimmed pedestal base for elevation and heat protection; clear glazed interior for effortless washing.

  • Glaze: Satin White exterior with unique blue/grey ink-spot speckles.

  • Crafted by: Hand-thrown and individually trimmed by Nina in Shropshire.

  • Care: Fully dishwasher and microwave safe for easy everyday comfort.

  • Shipping: Safely wrapped in 100% plastic-free, recyclable packaging and sent via Royal Mail Tracked delivery across the UK.

One-of-a-kind beauty: Because each mug is thrown and trimmed individually on the wheel, no two pedestal bases or glaze speckles are ever completely identical. Yours will feature its own subtle variations, making it a completely unique piece of studio pottery.

A gentle note on our small-batch process: Because I work in very small, intentional batches, there may be times when an item is out of stock; if so, I will happily hand-craft your piece to order, a slow-made process that typically takes between 6 to 8 weeks from the wheel to the kiln.

FAQs

Yes, unless otherwise stated the item is dishwasher safe, however to preserve the finish and help improve the longevity of your pottery, I recommend washing it by hand wherever possible.

Overtime dishwashers can cause additional wear on ceramics, especially with intricate glazes or decorations.

In particular circumstances where a lower fire clay is used, this is clear in the description of the item and while still may 'survive' a dishwasher it will effect the glaze/colours quicker.

want you to love your ceramics as much as I loved making them. However, I understand that sometimes things don't go as planned.

In the Unlikely Event of Breakages; While I pride myself on my robust, plastic-free packaging, the journey of a ceramic piece can occasionally be a bumpy one. If your item arrives damaged:

  1. Please take a photo of the broken item and the packaging it arrived in immediately.

  2. Email me at nina@ceramicsbynina.com within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and the photos attached.

  3. Replacement or Refund: We will either send out a replacement (subject to availability in our current small-batch stock) or issue a full refund including your original shipping costs.

Please note: As every piece is unique and hand-thrown, replacement items may have slight variations in shape or hand-painted detail compared to the original.

If your order is for a specific date please contact me ahead of ordering and we can arrange a timed and trackable delivery. This will be at an additional cost.
